Ambassador Spotlight: Peti Lau

This week, we caught up with Peti Lau, a wonderful member of our Access to Design team here at 200 Lex, whose expertise in the design world has been recognized by Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Wall Street Journal OffDuty, and many more. Her modern and eclectic style is truly one to be mimicked. Peti answered all our most pressing questions about where the industry is headed and what she wishes it would leave behind.

If you could use 3 words to sum up your interior design style, what would they be?
My trademark Style Aristofreak I describe as “Global, Eclectic and Romantic”.

What’s your favorite project that you’ve gotten to work on and why?
My favorite project I worked on was with Alex Pall, for the Chainsmokers. We wanted this house to be a super fun eclectic art house. The architecture of the house was really eclectic and had gone through many additions over the years. It started as a bungalow in the Hollywood Hills and then continued to be added onto throughout the years with various previous owners. So, when Alex came in, we wanted to really decorate it in a way that would support his ever-growing contemporary art collection, his eclectic mix of being both English and a New Yorker, and his lifestyle of being a DJ and musician.

What interior design trend do you want to go away and why?
The one design trend that I’m so over is “fifty shades of gray”. There was a moment that everyone wanted gray, gray, and more gray. I find those gray tones can be so cold. I love a warm taupe gray, but not a cool gray. It feels sterile.

Over the pandemic, people have been really gravitating towards safety, calmness, and much more earth-tone colors.  AND I’m really excited about that because I love those earthy, rich warm tones. Warm tones are so much more inviting.

What interior design trend do you think we’ll be seeing more of in 2022?
Besides what I just mentioned about more earthy tones like colors in sand, rusts, browns, and tans. I think we are going back to more warm beiges. Before the grays, it was all about beige.  I think it’s about finding that new beige, that’s just slightly creme, but also bright. We are entering a new world of post-pandemic, and everyone wants to start with a fresh palate.  AND a good creme color is always a good start.

Art. I see people are putting more emphasis on art. Art gives us the feels without ever having to describe or label a feeling.  It makes us do that when we resonate with a piece.  That’s the magic, it’s a transformative energy exchange. The incredible resources available online have given us so much access to artists’ work. Art isn’t just for the blue-chip collector. Anyone can have access or be inspired to make their own art. I see that trend not stopping anytime soon.
