Modern Meets Vintage in Bridgehampton

In Bridgehampton, a super modern home takes on a fun and beachy feel. When Access to Design designer Sasha Bikoff first started working with McDonough & Conroy Architects she saw an opportunity to add an element of surprise to the interior by incorporating vintage pieces, unexpected color and bold sculptural designs.

“I wanted to look at this whole idea of modern design in a colorful lens,” says Bikoff. “The exterior of the house had super modern architecture, but I didn’t want the inside to feel cold or sterile, so I worked to incorporate vintage and antiques. I sourced a lot of pieces from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. We kept the walls white, for the most part, and added punchy furniture throughout.”

The open living room is furnished with an Adrian Pearsall–designed sofa and a pair of Emilio Pucci–designed Rive Droite swivel chairs for Cappellini. In the living room, Yves Klein’s Table Bleue and Table Rose sit atop a multicolored Missoni Home rug; the sectional is from Ralph Lauren Home. Fabrics by Jean Paul Gaultier for Roche Bobois cover the vintage shell-back chairs and Vladimir Kagan sofa in the dining room; the surfboard is Chanel.

In the bedrooms and smaller rooms, Bikoff added wallpaper to complement the colorful furniture throughout the rest of the house.

In the breakfast nook, the butterfly wallpaper from Voutsa draws the outdoors in, with vintage Eames chairs surrounding a 1970s Roger Rougier table. “I used the Hamptons natural landscape, farmers market, wildflowers, as a source of inspiration. I love to incorporate iconography from nature.”

In the downstairs powder room, the wallpaper connects the dots to all the other rooms. “There is a sample of every color seen through the house,” Bikoff recalls.

“My favorite room in the house is the guest bedroom with the crashing wave wallpaper – I’m a surfer, an ocean girl. I love that the wallpaper [from Flavor Paper] feels alive.” The room’s brown and white rug is from Ralph Lauren Home completed with a Hans Wegner armchair.

“The Hamptons lifestyle is all about entertaining so above all, I wanted this home to feel like a joyous summer holiday house,” Bikoff concludes. And joyous it is.
