Sossego Opens Flagship Showroom
Sossego [so-SAY-go], purveyor of modern Brazilian design, opens its flagship showroom at the New York Design Center. Renowned Brazilian designers ensured the 2,300 square-foot window-wrapped space on the 13th floor reflected the brand’s cultural heritage and highlighted their hand-finished furniture collections, including one of its most iconic designs, the Duda Stool.
A serendipitous meeting of two unlikely Brazilians birthed the formation of Sossego: one, the former software engineering executive, now award-winning furniture designer Aristeu Pires, and the other, a young entrepreneur, Jonathan Durling. Compelled to bring authentic Brazilian design, its warm and modern aesthetic, and the way of life it represents to North America, several US and Brazilian partners joined to form Sossego. The company has since engaged designers Domingos Totora and Guilherme Wentz to complement its offerings as it aims to lead the category of modern Brazilian design in North America.
With sales climbing year over year, the brand understands what the world needs now is “sossego, sweet sossego.” – That’s the Portuguese word meaning a deep and pervasive sense of peace and tranquility that informs all of life.
“Our designers bring beauty, intrigue, and a sense of calm to their distinctly Brazilian pieces,” says Sossego Founder Jonathan Durling. Whether workplaces, public spaces, home, or hospitality, Sossego is dedicated to providing beautiful pieces, value-added project solutions, and exemplary service to its discriminating and happy users.
