Voutsa Launches Powerful New Collections

The Birds serves as extension of the Cheyne Walk commission featured in Architectural Digest, featuring more species, new environments, and three color ways (Stone, Blue, and Pink). Fully customizable, these new scenic wallpapers dance in space with joyful exuberance, inviting audiences old and new on a theatrical journey through pattern and design.

Speaking with Voutsa’s founder George Venson, he went on to explain Summer Resnatch: “After launching The Show Must Go On (a Trompe L-oeil stripes and polka-dot collection for the new age, and our first launch during Covid-19), we decided it was a nice time to plump up the signature collection by illustrating our customization capabilities. We began the process by repainting some of our favorite rhythms: Our Fiona’s lines were reimagined into a jewel-toned Antoinette, Maude has found a simpler, green friend in Harold, and Guinevere has given birth to a denser Maria.

Venson continues, “Menagerie, our iconic flora and fauna explosion, is now offered in two Farrow and Ball color-matched backgrounds, Vert De Terre and Peignoir. Guinevere is now available on a gorgeously textured burlap wallpaper, Grace will now be offered on a shimmery metallic gold paper, and the everlasting Maude will be offered on a sisal. These new pattern / material combinations represent our studio’s capabilities and we’re excited to show the world what we have created…”

Meanwhile, during PRIDE, Voutsa launched its newest collaborative wallpaper, Trans Power Toile, by Grant Shaffer, a New York based artist, illustrator, and teacher at the Hetrick Martin Institute.

About the the Trans Power Toile: The images within the toile, available in Blue, Pink, and White, highlight icons and heroes like Sylvia Rivera, Lucy Hicks Anderson, Rita Hester, Justin Vivian Bond, Marsha P. Johnson, and Venus Xtravaganza, as well as the many trans individuals who fought tirelessly and continue to fight for our rights and protection as lgbtq+ people. Legendary sites of trans resistance like the Stonewall Inn and Gene Compton’s Cafeteria are featured as well.

About Hetrick Martin Institute: HMI serves as a resource for transgender and gender non-conforming young people, who are often subjected to violence, stigma and discrimination. HMI helps trans youth overcome the hardships and mental challenges posed by transphobia, which can be detrimental and leave behind long-lasting effects. They help raise awareness and provide trans young people with medical support resources—oftentimes difficult for them to access, especially recently throughout the coronavirus pandemic. About Grant Shaffer: Grant Shaffer has lived and worked in Manhattan as an artist/illustrator for over 25 years and his illustrations have appeared in magazines and newspapers such as The New Yorker, The New York Times and Interview Magazine.  He also works as a storyboard artist for films and music videos, and has illustrated children’s books for Penguin Random House. Grant teaches an illustration course at the School of Visual Arts, as well as general art at Hetrick-Martin Institute.
